Horizon Network – School Direct
Horizon is a network of schools who have worked together as a group for thirteen years. Within the group there are a variety of settings. The majority of schools are 3-11 primary schools. However, as part of the group there are also a secondary school, nursery schools and Children’s Centres and an all age special school for children with severe learning difficulties and disabilities. The cluster has an annual action plan to address important issues through a joint approach and sharing expertise.
Within Horizon there is a history of joint professional development where staff have opportunities to learn from each other and share practice. Staff at all levels, including heads, co-coordinators and support staff have worked together to learn from each other. There have been joint training and ‘Learning Walk’ visits to each others schools. Leadership is distributed with different projects led by teachers across the cluster. We offer a continuing professional development programme for our NQTs and RQTs.
We are now recruiting our fourth cohort of School Direct trainees. Our programme is continually evaluated and improved and our students rate their training with us very highly.
A particular feature of the course is our commitment to joint training in professional studies. The expertise of our schools is shared to offer a highly interactive and practical series of sessions designed to support trainees in their preparations for classroom teaching. Feedback from our trainees and others who have participated in the programme is very positive.
Horizon is offering the opportunity for 6 committed high quality students to train within the network in 2016/17. In partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, we are providing an enhanced PGCE package designed to prepare trainees to work within our network. The intention is that on successful completion of the training year, trainees will be well placed to fill teaching vacancies in the cluster.pupils
Trainees will be expected to commit to the full school year of 195 days as this is an integral part of the training.
